About the Owner & Operator – Jack Oostenbrink

Jack grew up in the Chilliwack area and has been immersed in the horticulture industry since his early teens. Throughout junior high and high school, Jack worked for Brian Minter at Minter’s Country Garden after school and weekends. It was there that his relationship with plants began to develop. In his spare time, Jack slowly converted his parent’s five acre yard into a collection of over a thousand plant varieties. Jack says, “I learned my plants in my teenage years, later I learned how to design with them.”

After high school, Jack obtained a horticulture diploma from Olds’ College and began to work for Valleybrook Gardens, growers of Heritage Perennials ™. After obtaining a degree and a teaching certificate, Jack taught elementary school for several years, all the while designing and installing gardens on the side. Eventually the demands of both jobs became too much and he decided to devote all of his time to Silverstone Landscapes.

These experiences in both horticulture and education complement Jack’s position in the custom landscape industry. His educational training has taught him skills such as communicating effectively, reflecting on his work, and building relationships. Meanwhile, his horticultural background gives him the ability to draw on his knowledge of plants to suit any situation, terrain or landscape taste.
